Greg Williams Life Monument
„Conifers Galore!
Greg Williams became interested in
conifers in the 1940s, when he started combing old estates, cemeteries, and
woods in the mid-Atlantic States, the Hudson Valley, and New England, in search
of unusual cultivars and sports. Working from cuttings and seeds, he has
introduced numerous selections to the plant industry, including Pinus
strobus 'Horsford Dwarf,' Tsuga canadensis 'Essex,' Picea pungens
'St. Mary's Broom,' and Picea abies repens 'Vermont Gold' (the last, a
new introduction of a golden sport of the dwarf Norway Spruce). Greg continues
to propagate and introduce new selections from his personal arboreta in West
Woodbury and Wolcott, Vermont”. 2001.

Greg has explored the Hunnewell Estate in the past and knows the plants and has found a couple of fir brooms there. Bob Fincham text.

For outstanding drama, stake this prostrate, weeping form of White Pine, and enjoy its distinctive contorted branch work. Clusters of long, widely spaced needles decorate the ends of strongly draping branches, leaving the tree's open form and gorgeous silver bark on display. Selected by Greg Williams at Vermont's Kate Brook Nursery, the large pine is a handsome, ornamental accent or it cascades down and covers a bank beautifully. Iseli text.
